“Untitled (truth)” is part of a series of works begun in 2020 that explore the metaphorical potential of gesture as a vehicle for language. In this case, the gesture is copied from the painting “Incredulità di San Tommaso” (1602), more specifically, from one of the key characters in Caravaggio's work - St. Thomas - popularly known as “the unbeliever”. By appropriating this symbolic gesture, the work maintains the ambiguity of the painting and opens up space for multiple interpretations, letting the gesture itself, in its visual form, convey what words cannot.
